Five years of successful entrepreneurship Jenhell Madden owner of Jenjel’s Hairdressing & Beauty Culture shares her grassroots to greatness experience. Her love for health and beauty has started her on this journey of becoming a certified cosmetologist. “I started doing cosmetology from I was a little girl.
I first learned to do my own hair, nails and makeup then venture off to doing family and friends,” she said. In high school, Jenhell was always excelled in the Arts and Cosmetology leading to her entrance into the JCDC art festival. She garnered an award for the pieces she submitted which launched her into a prosperous business. At 25 yrs old, an entrepreneur and a single mom of two, She emphasized on finding a balance. “ I work in a very demanding industry and as such, I have to create time for my family first then business after. They are my greatest motivation so I ensure that my kids not only know I love them but show them through my dedicated time and efforts.” Jenhell hails from the parish of St.Thomas where she chooses to do business. St.Thomas is often called ‘the forgotten parish’ however cosmetologist Madden aims to make a profound mark in her parish. “Growing up from a humble background has taught me to appreciate a lot of things in life because it was never easy. Despite the challenges, I was determined to succeed in my craft as well as independently working in my own salon.” She believes there is greatness in her little community, therefore, she strives to eliminate unemployment by creating her own business thus provide an income for herself and others.

JHBC has grown tremendously over past five years according to Jenhell’s client list totalling to over 300 clients since she started doing braids, sew-in, relaxing, facial, nails care but at inception, she only did natural hairstyles such ponytail, push waves, pin curls , braids, sew-in, straw set, rod set. Jenhell’s dream is to continue providing quality hair and beauty care in addition to expanding her salon to other regions in the country as well as purchasing her own property for business. “ You can achieve anything you put your mind to. I am a perfect testimony of hard work and dedication. I believe that people should pursue their dreams no matter where you're from, when you have the passion then you will be great.” JHBC has captured many clients through social media, word of mouth and promotional materials such as business cards, posters and T-shirts.
Importance of Personal Appearance

Jenhell Madden highlights the importance of personal appearance, “How one attire themselves speaks volume. People will always remember their first impression of you based on how you present yourself.” She stresses the matter of maintaining good hygiene especially with hair, nail and facial care. Here are some tips she recommends following:
● An unhealthy hair can lead to many complications such as dandruff, shedding, hair breakage, etc. The hair must be washed at least biweekly, oil twice per week to keep it moist and styled properly to fit the occasion. ● It is essential that your nails are cleaned and groomed at all times. Dirty fingernails can lead to fungus and spread germs, also washing the hands frequently can prevent bacteria from sticking under the nails. Keep toenails trimmed and neat as well as soaking the feet weekly to eliminate old skin. ● The face requires special attention. Don’t squeeze pimples with dirty objects, Keep face moisturized to avoid whiteness, use dermatologist recommended soap to cleanse the face, Apply face scrub daily to get rid of acne related problem. Lastly, little is much when using make-ups. Don’t overdo it. Entrepreneurship is never easy but Jenhell Madden shows that with determination and hard work success is bound to be your destination.
